Provigil is sometimes used for purposes that are not permitted by the FDA. The term “off-label” refers to a medicine that has been approved for one use but is being used for another. In some circumstances, Provigil is used for reasons that are not authorised. They are as follows:
- Provigil is an ADHD medication.
Provigil is a prescription medication that is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, it isn’t recommended as a first-line treatment for this condition.
Although some study shows that it can help with ADHD symptoms, other research reveals that it has no effect. The American Academy of Pediatrics, Trusted Source does not currently endorse Provigil for the treatment of ADHD.
- Provigil is used to treat depression.

Provigil should only be taken if your doctor has recommended it. Misusing this medicine can lead to addiction and abuse.
The amount of Provigil your doctor prescribes will be determined by a number of factors. These are some of them:
-the type and severity of the ailment you’re taking Provigil for,
-and any other medical problems you may have
Typically, your doctor will begin with a low dose and gradually increase it until you find the dose that is good for you. They’ll eventually prescribe the least dose that achieves the desired effect.
It is generally prescribed in doses of 200mg to treat daytime sleepiness from narcolepsy and sleep apnea. Rarely higher doses up to 400 mg may be prescribed by a doctor. For people with liver ailments maximum dosage of 100mg must be given.
For off-label users it is advised not to take beyond the recommended daily dosage of 200mg. It is always better to start with lower doses of 50mg to 100 mg.
Being said that, we are no medical advisors here you should always consult a doctor before taking Provigil for your disorders
How safe is it to take Provigil regularly?
Research studies prove that people with chronic diseases like sleep disorder took normal doses of Provigil every day for 3 weeks and were absolutely fine.
But we don’t recommend it for off-label users. You can take it every day if your doctor prescribed it to you for diseases like narcolepsy or sleep apnea but if you are taking modafinil for cognitive enhancing functions maximum thrice a week on alternate days will render sufficient benefits.
Even if you can take modafinil everyday safely you shouldn’t opt for that. It’s good to keep a balance in such matters and anything in excessive amounts will do no good to your body. As the saying goes ‘less is more’. If taken in moderate amounts you will be able to sustain the benefits for a longer time in life. It will also prevent building up drug tolerance which forces individuals to take more to feel any effect. Individuals must understand the difference between ‘use’ and ‘abuse’. Using Provigil wisely in a safe effective manner can help us achieve long lasting effects.
